Kerala Automobiles Limited (KAL) has developed an eco-friendly Ice Cream Electric Cart (E-Cart) designed to support sustainable and efficient mobile vending of frozen products, particularly ice cream. This fully electric vehicle is powered by a high-efficiency lithium-ion battery and operates with zero tailpipe emissions, making it an ideal solution for urban and environmentally sensitive areas. The vehicle is equipped with a robust, battery-operated refrigeration unit that maintains the required sub-zero temperatures, ensuring the quality and safety of perishable goods. With a driving range of 100 to 110 kilometres per charge and a top speed of 25 km/h, it complies with low-speed vehicle norms while offering adequate performance for daily vending operations. Charging the cart takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours using a standard charger.
Designed with functionality and practicality in mind, the Ice Cream E-Cart features a compact yet spacious structure, making it suitable for navigating narrow streets, marketplaces and high-footfall zones such as beaches, parks and fairs. The cart offers customizable compartments for organized storage, an easy-access serving counter and branding-friendly exterior panels. It has a payload capacity of approximately 310 kilograms, including the refrigeration unit and merchandise. This innovative product is especially beneficial for small-scale entrepreneurs, ice cream brands, self-help groups and cooperative societies seeking to expand their business through mobile vending. Moreover, it aligns with government initiatives promoting electric mobility and sustainable employment generation, making it a valuable asset for local self-governments and rural development programmes.
